Checking out 55 inch TV models.

Looking for a new TV to buy can really be a time-wasting process. I have done some of the legwork for you by reviewing what I personally think are the best of the best models,so you can make a good, informed decision on the back of that. Of course everyone has different criteria as to which features matter most, but in my view these are the 55 inch TVs to check out.

Vizio XVT553SV Review

The Vizio XVT553SV offers excellent picture quality, great local dimming capacity, and an extensive array of features. Compared to the other top 55 inch HDTVs, the Vizio XVT553SV is definitely not as pricy. You will find prices are typically around $1600.

Samsung UN55D8000

The Samsung UN55D8000 55 inch 3D LED HDTV (an upgrade of the great UN55C8000) provides unique edge-lit local dimming capacity, deep black levels, superb contrast, and precise colors. These features, not to mention its SMART TV platform make it one of the best 55 inch HDTVs. Price starts around $2,695.00.

Two more Great HDTVs

The Sony Bravia HX800 makes use of its LED backlighting and unique sensors to give the best color and brightness. The 240 Hz technology and 1920x1080p resolution provide smooth motion detail and make it one of the best HDTVs. The TV can be picked up for as low as $1850 online and you can read our Sony Bravia Review Here.

The Vizio M550NV 55 inch LED LCD hdtv makes our list of best flat screen TVs because of its sharp detail and advanced internet applications. This is a truly cost-effective option if you take into account the ambient light-sensing and the virtual surrond sound. Prices begin around $1,298.00.

The LG 55LE8500 and the Vizio M550NV

The LG 55LE8500 is considerably more expensive than the Vizio M550NV, but gives better shadow detail, very deep shades of black, amazing color accuracy and improved angle-viewing. Videophiles would probably still go for this TV even though it is on the more expensive side. The price for this at time of writing is about $2,400.00.

So which top 55 inch HDTV is the best value for your money? Since 3D capacity adds cost, we eliminated the Sony and Samsung models. The LG model was cut due to the cost. This leaves the two Vizios.

As our review describes, the Vizio M550NV is a 1080p 120Hz HDTV with many laudable features. Something that buyers often comment on is the fact that the Vizio M550NV runs a lot cooler than plasma TVs and that the picture quality is better. Buyers like the fact the setup is easy, its extensive array of internet apps, and outstanding customizable picture and audio settings on this Vizio 55. A frequent comment by buyers was that the Vizio M550NV is the best 55 inch HDTV for the money. There were several customer complaints noted, specifically with the picture freezing, or shutting down.

Pros and Cons of the Two Vizio 55 inch tVs

Customers who looked at our Vizio XVT553SV review liked the Vizio's features -e.g 1080p and 240Hz- and that CNET rated the XVT553V "excellent" back in 2010. CNET and individual owners liked the XVT553SV's outstanding picture quality, great design, stacks of features, and top value among the other 55 inch LCD HDTVs. Customers also liked the excellent color accuracy and big viewing angle. Others have reported that in comparison shopping, that the XVT553SV is one of the best performing HDTVs available. Negative comments noted were poor black levels and contrast ratios.

This is the bottom line: The Vizio M550NV and the Vizio XVT553SV come out as victors in our search for best value 55 inch HDTVs. When comparing these two Vizios to other 55 inch HDTVs, the Sony HX800 gets our tick next for quality value, but some customers have issues with all the accessories you need to buy to go with the 3D options. We have to say the the Vizio XVT553SV overall is a superior HDTV than its 55 inch relative, the M550NV, for a number of reasons such as its quicker 240Hz refresh rate and its advanced backlighting and dimming on offer.
